Horizontal oil filter (versus vertical)

Good afternoon my friends.

I still can't decide a location for my remote oil filter. It's below the truck, under the driver side, just not exactly sure where.

I assumed there was lot of room, but it turns out not so much for the very large filter.
So I saw a "perfect" location, right behind the wheel well cover and below the driver's door. It's perfect as long as horizontal mount works.
It's easy to change oil and easy to mount and I don't have to extend the hose too far back. I may have to put a cover on it, just in case the tire spins dirt on it.

I am thinking with vertical position, filter opening up, dirty particles are accumulated at the bottom, far from inlet/outlet ports. With horizontal, is there any concern about change position? For car, filters in horizontal are common. Maybe it's not an issue?

Now that I typed this, I think about the various holes around the filter's center. Those may keep the oil's dirty particles in each filter media's fold.

I didn't cut open an open filter, so I don't know how those dirty particles accumulate, and wonder if it's totally different than what I assume such as that it's not like things are filled up in there :-)

Position won't matter really.
It's not uncommon to even see filters mounted upside down in certain makes and models.

It's more personal preference, so just go what works best for you.

Thank you very much. Why did I not think of this truck itself is using an upside down filter?

I think the issue is in replacement... how messy do you want it when going after that filter?

Thanks, that's another good point. Horizontal will allow me to slowly drain the oil out before changing it. Vertical, oil is all over the filter.
