I have been looking for a forged rod motor to put in my 2003 excursion..
Truck has 205,000 miles now lives in Canada and has original engine..
My plan this summer was to pull it and do preventative maintenance so it would live the next 5 years as trouble free as possible..
I found a 1999 cube van that had the motor replaced 2 years ago with LGB19RM which sounds easy enough to understand.. Long block reman..
They have since put 20,000 miles on it but needs alot of body work ect and won't pass safety..
I can get the entire van for 1500$..
Can anybody offer some insight on these remans ??
I assume it will have PMR rods now ?
I don't think that there are any differences between a forged rod vs PMR motor other than the rods themselves. They were interchangeable when doing testing. If you are planning to do a rebuild anyway would it be more cost effective to just replace the rods with something from a supplier like Summit Racing?
The only worry about rods is when you factor in tuning and the HP levels you can comfortably achieve. If you are going mild tuning then I think you'd be silly to pass on that deal, but doesn't hurt to toss out a lowball offer!!
Unless you are going significantly over 400 HP, I don't see the advantage of swapping out a just-broke-in 200K factory engine. 200K is absolutely nothing on the factory-built hardware, I'm in the mid 300s with bigger power (400 HP). Granted, I have forged rods... but I know of a gajillion scenarios with that much power and miles on PMRs - and no issues.
I have an engine on the stand that had 180K miles when pulled. It passed the compression, leak-down, and covers-off inspections with flying covers - so I'm just cleaning it, adding a few trinkets, and waiting for my engine to start knocking. No rebuild for me. $0.02
So I picked us this rig on the weekend..
Couldn't pass it up..
But really don't understand what I have here..
Did vans not get built with intercoolers ? Looks like it will be easy to remove with the access from the interior..
I guess its a cab and chassis E450 with an added fiberglass back..
here's a few images.
I paid equivalent to 1100$ US dollars..
And drove it home 4 hrs ...
An E-450 should be cab and chassis, steel tank at the rear of the truck, 4R100 2WD trans. You'll have to switch some parts out to put it into your Ex. The alternator and A/C compressor are probably in switched locations so you'll have to swap your brackets in, your oil cooler mounts (the ends only) are different but I do not know that they have to be changed, maybe, maybe not. It has no aftercooler so you'll need to swap in your spider, the turbo has a different exhaust housing but you may be able to use it if you want to, it's something like a 1.15 AR and the outlet on it might be different size. It is missing the wastegate too. The oil fill tube is on the driver's side VC so you might want/need to change something there, either the VC's or if there are plugs in the VC's you might be able to move the tube over or you might be able to leave it on the other side. It probably has a GPCM so you should be able to leave that part alone. That's all I can think of at the moment.

Thanks for that info..
Any ideas is that's a 4 or 5 bolt compressor housing ?
I'm trying to figure out if its and E or L 99 version..
Since the motor is much new I won't be able to tell by it..
Can't wait to pull it out
