Stupid EGR Question

Alright so this question is going to be really stupid, but it's so stupid that I can't seem to find an answer to it. I recently acquired a 77 F250 and as I'm getting familiar with it I noticed that the EGR valve is connected to manifold vacuum. This doesn't seem right to me but correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't that mean that the EGR is seeing vacuum all the time? Isn't it only supposed to open when I'm driving around at higher RPM's? Long story short, should it be connected to ported or manifold vacuum or does it not even matter.

You're correct, it should not be connected directly to manifold vacuum.
Is your engine a 351M-400? Here's a diagram for a 400 2V

Thanks for the confirmation! Mine is the 460 but now that I know it should be connected to ported I can fix it.

Here's a diagram for a 460. It's for a '78 but maybe it'll help.
