This is what I'm planning to get for my up coming cab & chassis. It's gonna be 8'x11'4". I would make a fold-down side & rear rails.

When going for a flat bed why not get a regular truck and do the bed delete so you have a full hp/tq engine instead of the commercial de-tuned one? I was close to getting a flatbed until I found out about that.

^^^^^^^ You get higher capacity and ratings on the cab and chassis F450 & F550. like over #10K payload. It does suck they are derated drivetrains but I'd rather modify the motor programming than be way over the rated capacity. I drive a modified F350 (hot for its day) but my F550 I never felt the need; 4.88 gears do a hell-of-a-lot for you.

so 10k more payload on a f450 cab/chassis vs a a f450 with a bed? And it’s mind boggling why they detune something specifically geared towards hauling. Dealer said the turbo and the dpf are smaller on the commercial 6.7’s. Makes no sense.

That one pictured is rated at 18K and rides extremely well. Most can't believe it's a 550. Our 17 550 is rated at 19.5 and it reminds you of that. It's better then our 15 550.

I find hard to add front axle weight.

The truck itself with 100 transfer tank, and fuel tank full is 10,500 and almost 50/50 split on axles. With GN, even at 47K adds almost nothing to front.

Longevity.....

Remember these are designed for fleet use. I know for a fact that we have a couple of "younger guys" who would hot rode the crap out of them.....

The 650 I have coming, I paid 3K extra for higher HP, they won't be driving it.

I speced out a standard bed from Martin welding but added some options like the 12" sides and back, headache rack, and extruded deck.

That was my though on the chassis, even with the 350 chassis you get a heavier suspension, the channel frame is heavier and straight not humped liked the pu version So the bed sits lower on the frame,
I'm just waiting for the warranty to expire so I can do something with the power although it's still better then my old 7.3.

Ford kept the frame the same so all of the aftermarket (upfitter's) beds would fit. It would cause a lot of heartache for the aftermarket if they had to make a Ford specific product.

The chassis frames are 34" wide and flat and I think the pu frames are wider (37" maybe?) and have a hump over the rear axle.

Here are two threads with flatbeds on SRW trucks:

and

Here is a custom aluminum tow body on a F-450, painted to match the truck:

Since the thread is nearly a year old I thought I would dig it back up. Anyone else add a bed by now?

Recently removed the pickup box and installed a CM flatbed. A few complications with relocating the 360-view camera and deleting BLIS and parking sensors, but Forscan is great for that.

I've been looking at that bed for a long time. I think it's the best one I've ever come across. I just need a place to store my factory bed...

Any one install a Bull Head truck bed? They are all aluminum, not just an aluminum top (https://www.bullheadproducts.com/). I wonder the weight difference between the oem beds and an CM or Bull Head aluminum.
