I've got one. The dealer screwed me and the truck was way late in showing up. The flatbed was a rush job because of that and it ended up sitting a couple inches higher than I'd have liked and weighing a couple hundred pounds more than it should have. Overall I am pretty happy with it though.

Beautiful truck,, and just the right welder One of the best field welders in the industry
Bed looks very beefy..almost medium duty beefy. I understand what you're saying about height.. looks like you wanted the headache rack bar to line up with the body line...and the toolbox to line up with the lower body line... but in the end.. you've built a really nice usable rig
Are you guys doing a bed delete or ordering the cab & chassis with the de-rated 6.7 PS? I am contemplating doing the bed delete but in the end I think that will end up costing me too much. The hp & torque #'s on the 6.7 PS cab & chassis are similar to my '15 D-max so I can live with that. Any experience with the de-tuned engine? Thanks.

I did a regular pick up with bed. That got me the full power engine, 3.55 ratio, spare tire w/carrier, and 3" hitch. If you do a bed delete on a regular truck you save five or six hundred but you also lose the hitch and spare. On a chassis cab srw you lose the hitch, get the detuned engine, 3.73 axles, and a couple other things that I can't recall right now. Tow ratings are also lower I believe. It is easier to mount a flatbed on the chassis cab frame but it's not a big deal. I kept the bed but could have sold it to the place that put the flatbed on. We end up having to replace the bed on a truck every few years so having an extra on hand can't hurt. So for me buying a truck with a bed was a no brainer.

Thanks, I didn't build it though. I was in a big squeeze for time so a local place did it. They had it on hand. It was what they called an oil field spec bed. The diamond plate is 3/16 instead of 1/8 and there was something else heavier about it. It wasn't made for a '17 Ford. The top of frame to top of cab distance on a '17 is higher than anything else so they had to space it off the frame to get the top of the headache rack high enough. It's not ideal but it works pretty well. Hopefully I can do better on the next one in '22.
I remember seeing a post from a member here that had a custom flatbed made and painted to match (Caribou IIRC). Hopefully he'll chime in. If not I'll try to find the post he made.

Trucks look good. I really like the functionality of a deck vs bed. The search continues. I like the idea of aluminum but not sure if steel makes more sense.
