The first trip of any length and I'm happy with MPG. 5.0/w 3.73 rear 23.9 over 316 miles from Pigeon Forge Tenn. to Southern Ohio. We drove over 200 miles around the GSM park through the mountains and the truck said 20.8 with my pen and paper saying 19.8. The few times I've checked up on the dash display, it has been .5 to 1 mpg off. I'm still happy with 22.9.
Actual hand calculated is the only MPG that really counts. My 2018 F-150 3.5L Ecoboost Platinum FX4 with 3:55.1 gears average reading has been as high as 24.7 MPG but my hand calculated has been around 19.23 MPG.
Yea, so far my hand calculated figures are a little less than the truck tells me. My 60 mile round trip to work will give a little over 21 on the dash and by hand I'll get 20 -20.5.The 23.9 is 99 percent highway 316 miles from point A to point B. We didn't see this kind of MPG in the mid 90's.

I don't buy into that thinking. Mainly because whenever you fill up, you don't know if you filled the tank to the point that the previous tank was filled. You could have easily put in or left out a gallon or so of gas.
Good point CR172. That being said, I used to check every tankful in my work car. The numbers would usually be really close from tank to tank. I trust the hand calculated numbers myself for accuracy, but then again, you do make a good point.

Fortunately in my case, I always fill up at a local Shell station. When the pump shuts off automatically is when I calculate my MPG. It's close enough for me to calculating MPG. Any other difference I'm not concerned with. I'm sure everyone else uses a different technique and or service station.
I guess I should have worded my post a little differently. I should have said, "Actual hand calculated is the only MPG that really counts for me."
Hand calculated MPG will be more accurate. I've already seen my truck consistently off compared to my calculations every time I've checked it. I do like the fact that my truck seems to be consistent with the MPG numbers even if they are different than mine.
I have the meter results for each trip in the notes on each fill up.
Thanks for links. I also add the meter results in notes. Usually off by .5 to 1.5 MPG. I have 39 fill ups on Fuelly.com. Every gallon of gas I have put in new truck. I also use another app I like better than fuelly. Both apps have same results.
Question on Fuelly, app locks up when I try to add WHERE I bought gas. May be something I am doing wrong. Do you add fill ups from phone or later on laptop? Thanks

My MPG ranges from ~~ 12 MPG (towing a TT) to 99 MPG. That's right, the display was showing 99 MPG for several miles. It was at Bear Valley Ski resort at ~~ 7100' elevation. I'd just filled the tank, and we started off going downhill at roughly 55 MPH. Darn MPG gauge showed 99 MPG until the hills started undulating and we had a mix of uphill and downhill. At some point before we got into the "flats", it had settled into 45 MPG. Then when we got down into the flats with some stop and go it eased down to 24 MPG. By the time we got home, going across the central valley, then up the mountain at our end, we ended up with 22 MPG.
All the above is accord to the lie-o-meter (AKA LOM). The hand calculated is always about 0.5 to 1 MPG worse than LOM.

I add them on my desktop. I think you have to click on "Set Location" to add where you bought gas. I have not had issues with that. It pops up a map when I click on it, and I just find the station and click on it. I will pay closer attention to that on the next fill up and see if I can add anything to the conversation regarding that aspect.
