Fuel Pump Woes
A friend of mine recently purchased a boat that was powered by a 6L Power Stroke diesel engine. Unfortunately he forgot to turn on the bilge pump and the boat partially sank. He had to replace the entire engine but he did so using a gas engine instead of a diesel engine. He had the fuel tank replaced with the same one he had before. The fuel pump in the system is a Racor PFP58054, which is listed as a diesel pump. But he's using it with a gasoline engine.
Over the past year he has had to replace the fuel pump 6 times and he can't figure out why it keeps failing. I suspect it's because the pump wasn't made to pump gasoline. But I don't really know the answer so I'm wondering if anyone here knows what happens if the Racor PFP58054 is used in a gas system, not a diesel system. Can you help?
