Hey guys, this is my first truck, and I feel like this is a good one. a SWB 78 4x4 f-150 with a 351m and a c6 tranny. But I'm having some doubts that this is a 351m. I found a piece of an oil filter box that has "milage 73k Ford F150 460" written on it. It currently has 75k on it, and I'm wondering if the engine in it is actually a 351m, or is it a 460. I say the heads were D3VE-a2a, at least that's what it looks like it says, since it's a little rusty there. I also have a question about my 4x4 and my tranny, but I figured I'd need separate post for those. I tried to take as many pictures as I could over things like the heads, and where the in-take is. The wasps weren't giving me a whole lot of room lol. Thank you in advance.
351C/M/400 335 series: 8 bolts in rectangular valve covers. Timing chain housing is part of block. Thermostat housing on block. Exhaust bolt holes diagonal.
351M/400 335 series: intake is 12.7" wide the 351C is narrow. The 351M and 400 are identical externally, only internal parts examination can tell them apart.
351W/302/5.0L 6 bolts on trapezoidal valve covers. Thermostat housing on intake. Exhaust bolt holes horizontal.
429/460 385 series: 7 bolts in rectangular valve cover your red circled them right?
352/360/390/427/428 FE series: Intake goes under valve covers.
Side note" pretty sure those larger that normal used on a hood FORD letters are NOT the normal ones. I bet they came of a 73-77 grill shell.

460 swapped in, notavailable with 4WD until 1983, then in F250/350's only.
429/460's have 7 valve cover bolts per side, 351M/400 have 8 valve cover bolts per side. 429's only installed in 1969/73 cars.
