Bogging down. Having problems and not sure where to start.
The low range light and the battery light will randomly come on. It seems when it happens simultaneously while driving it up shifts (a gear or 2) way before is necessary. It has no power at this time being that the RPM's are so low. Sometimes it corrects quickly sometimes I will press on the pedal and it takes many moments before it will down shift again (with large acceleration and black smoke) to an appropriate gear and RPM. If I shift it into a lower gear it corrects immediately. Also just for testing while driving in the gear right below drive I do not have this issue. Any ideas??
There is a wire that tells the PCM that the transfer case is in 4x4 low. If that wire gets shorted to ground, or the sensor the wires connects to on the transfer case is bad the PCM thinks the transfer case is in low range when it really isn't. That will cause it to upshift WAY too soon.

What is the best way to fix this? Sorry if it is a dumb question.
The best way is to do an electrical diagnostic on that circuit and determine if the wire is shorted or the sensor is bad. It's going to be one or the other.
Sorry again, after doing research on your answer I cannot find a good answer on where to start this electrical check. Do i start with the PCM? Or which circuit are you talking about and where is it? Or where is the sensor? Thank you!
