Bakflip F1 problem - Anyone else?
I just installed a Bakflip F1 on my 17 F350 Dually (8' bed). I'm just curious... has anyone else??? And are you having any problems with general fit? Mine only covers about 1/4 inch of the tailgate (not enough for the water seals to even touch the gate) and a 1/2 inch of the front bed rail (at best). The biggest problem I have, though is that as I fold the cover, after the third fold (the one just before the final fold that stands the cover against the back window), there is a significant amount of “bind” on the cover from the latches against the top of the final panel, so much so that it holds the front of the folded cover an inch or so above the panel it should be resting on. I took a photo of it, and sent in a rough drawing of the problem to Bak Industries and their support people told me this was absolutely normal. I believe the weight from the folded top not resting against the rest of the top is going to damage the latches and/or the cover where this levered pressure is. Anyone else seeing this problem? Oh, and yes, it's dirty. Farming has started and so has the dirt rolling off of the fields.
If I'm understanding correctly that is how mine was new, after a while it stretches and sags down. Mine is on an F150 but there is not much overlap for the water seal, and it doesn't seal well. With age those seals stretch and shrink and seal even worse. My cover, now 3 years old, is faded discolored and just bad looking, it provides little water seal and is about useless, other than keeping my stuff out of sight.
So my suggestion if you are within the time limit and can, I would return it. The only other option is live with it and try to warn others about what a piece of junk they are.
