Maybe its just me but it doesn't really seem like he was launching very hard.
That baby powerstroke is gonna kill the light truck market though IMO. Toyotas been competing against them for awhile and still refused to drop a diesel in their light trucks.
The only real competition is the Nissan's with the baby Cummins. Those things are sitting with a pretty price tag though. To my experience, a large percentage of Muricans want diesels in their light truck, but the strict emissions regulations make developing engines for the US market a huge gamble.
If they are able to achieve the fuel mileage numbers that are being reported, they will sell very well. I was very surprised by the big tow ratings too. Thought Ford would have left a little meat on the bone for the Eco's in that category.
I think it will sell well but i can't imagine them having any type of payload..
platinum diesel 4x4 CC was a bit over 1300 pounds payload. That's enough to make a dump run in your 4x8 trailer. less tow capacity than the 3.5 EB, less payload, marginally better mileage. No reason to buy it. Obviously, Ford is trying to navigate the f-150 v super duty conundrum. More margin in a super duty. Don't want the 150 scavenging sales from the super duty. So, what's an OEM to do? Same issue porshce has with the cayman v 911. Cayman is 5 times the track car as the 911 and they could easily make the same power, but if they did, the cayman would eat the 911 alive on the track. you get the point.
That clown seems surprised that a vehicle that is 3/4 the weight, with half the power (Both HP and Torque) is slower. I assume the 150 had a few extra shifts between 0 and 60, and in all honest, would hte 250 have been in 4th, the turn off the torque management and release all the troques?
3.0 seems to be what everyone is looking at. Fiat had the same in the RAM (I still don't think that have restarted offering that engine), its also what GM will offer soon. If they can get the advertised mileage, w/regens, it will be great.

I think you'll find it sells quite well.
The Nissan and Toyota trucks are not competition for Ford or the Big 3.

Ford sells F150s 2 to 1 to the SDs. So although the SDs may have more margin, the F150 sales are more profitable.
From Initial reports the Mpg on this thing is outstanding. It far surpasses the EcoBoost. Light foot driving is showing 30mpg. Normal driving is showing 25mpg. This is a big jump in fuel economy for a truck like this.

For nearly two years I had a '15 EB 3.5 F150 Lariat in addition to my previous tow vehicle, an '07 F350 6.0. I loved the EB F150. It towed my open car trailer with ease. I never tried the 24' enclosed with but I know several people that use one for that job. I had the F350 6.0 for that job. The only down side to the EB 3.5 in the F150 is mileage, I never got it out of the teens even on the interstate (no trailer). It got mid teens towing the open car trailer the few times I towed with it. The 3.0 PSD F150, at probably 30 mpg on the interstate and close to 20 towing, would be pretty awesome.
It won't come close to matching my '17 F250 6.7 PSD for towing though. And its good enough to double as a daily driver so I won't be buying a 3.0 PSD F150 any time soon.
