My wife and I are in the process of trying to buy a new F150 and she just found out today that the place she works for allows her to qualify for X plan pricing. I was just wondering how much of a difference that will make on the price of the new truck? Currently we were quoted $9k off MSRP on the truck we are wanting to order.
Also, we haven't dickered on trade in price yet, the sales manager was gone when we were there Sat so they are going to call us Mon with some numbers. Would it be better to see what kind of trade price we can get worked out before telling them we qualify for X plan?
X-Plan typically won't help on a truck.
The 9k off MSRP will be below X-plan.
However, the dealer will want you to get the PIN so they can play their games.
Best part of X-Plan is access to the website so you can search all the local dealers websites to find what you want.
X plan varies by vehicle, not model, specific vehicle. They are willing to give bigger discounts on some packages more than others, etc... So it will vary by each vehicle on the lot.
X Plan is nice, but it's not THAT great. Not what Ford wants you to think it is.
When I bought my daughter's 2010 Focus, X-plan save me $400. Not worth the time it took to generate a pin. I printed another pin for my 2011 truck but the sales manager got way below invoice on that one as he really needed to move it.
X-plan is very handy when looking at a well moving model / package that they try to hold the price on. It also caps the dealer doc fee at $99.00, however, perhaps that's changed over the years to a higher amount.
X-plan negates any fees normally associated with a dealer transfer (DX).
X-plan is .4% over invoice. This is pretty close to the price that the "one price" dealers try to work from.
X-plan is vehicle specific and it entitles you to all rebates and incentives currently being offered in addition to the plan discount.
I know for a fact that I can negotiate below X-plan but not everyone can or will. It's a great tool but, I'd take a look at COSTCO's car buying service if you are a member. It seems to be the strongest buying service in the country.
According to Ford's X-plan website, once the PIN is offered to the dealer, all negotiations on the vehicle are supposed to cease. It will not affect your trade or ability to negotiate for a higher amount.
Get firm numbers with out X-Plan first. Get your trade value too. Then hit them with X-plan and see if it helps. Many times I have had them beat the X-plan price.
Thanks guys. Everyone was right, I got a better deal on the truck without the X plan pricing. Maybe when the time comes to trade in my Super Duty I'll try the X plan since the SD gas trucks aren't discounted as much as an F150.
Dealer gave us a really good(at least I think it was)price on our trade in so we have a new F150 on order. Salesman told us it would probably be about 8wks at the most to get it in.
