TAB TAD and ECM replacements?
I'm looking for some parts replacemet help
The resistance of the coil on the TAD solenoid is reading about 3300 ohms, the TAB coil is 33 ohms, So I'm guessing the TAD solenoid has gone bad. Looking in a Ford manual, the part number is 9D477. Can anybody tell what the rest of the part number is for an 1987 4.9L engine? What model years can I pull these solenoids off from?
I think my ECM is starting to get flaky, every once in a while the truck will hiccup going down the road, it recovers and then drives normal. I did a shake/pull test on the wiring harness while the truck was running, the truck never missed or glitched. I put a fuel pressure gauge with a long hose on it and drove, the fuel pressure stayed at about 55 psi. I did a code check KOEO , 11 and 10 were to only ones displayed.
I have read, on the forum, that others have had this problem and it turned out to be the ECM. I pulled my ECM and took the cover off, the capacitors looked good, no leakage, there was no discoloring on the circuit board. My ECM is part number E7TF-12A650-L2C, which must be an oddball as there don't seem to be any available from the auto parts store. Since my 87 is a Custom with a 4.9l and a standard transmission, do you think I can use one with a different number like an E7TZ-12A650-MB ? The description says it is for a F150, 4.9L, manual transmission, Federal emission standards.
Sorry for the long post.
Thank you,
Nick
Were you able to run the KOER test?
Is your calibration sticker still on your engine? (7-51E-R00)
What is your build date?
California truck ?
Replacing the ECA/computer should be a fairly last resort.
I would think the MB would work.
Copy all the numbers/codes from your ECA before surrendering as a core, if you can afford it, keep your old one.
I'm guessing these may work as well;

Thank you for the reply.
I did not see any labels on the TAB TAD assembly, I will pull it off the truck tonight. Do you know if the same assembly was used on other model years with the 4.9L engine? There a a few early 90s models at the junkyard.
I did a KOER test last night, the only Code returned was 11.
I looked all over the engine last night, I could not find a Cal label. Was there a specific place where the put them?
The truck was purchased in North Carolina in 1987, so I guess it just has the Federal emissions.
Thank you again,
Nick

I would say it was used for a few years.
Cal Labels were put on the valve cover back then.

I found a picture of the label that is on my air filter box, it looks similar to the one on the CAL document you posted. Sorry for the size of the picture

I don't know which is TAD & TAB, but check your connectors to each, they may be keyed/slotted differently so that one will not plug into the other.
Edit;
-B = TAD ?
-A = TAB ?

1980 and later: Any emission related part has to be either looked up in Ford parts catalogs by its specific calibration code or by the ID engineering number marked on the part.

Bill, does your parts list show which of these numbers are the TAB & TAD ?
How many years do these cover?
Thanks.
