ranger cold issues
The Ranger & Mazda 2.3L & 2.5L SHOC 4banger engines are Non Interference/Free Running engines, such that if the timing belt breaks the pistons don't contact the valves, so you didn't bend anything up when your timing belt broke. But did you get the cam & crank timing marks spot on when installing the replacement timing belt & was the timing belt tensioner & idler pulley changed when the replacement timing belt was installed? Was a OEM timing belt, or a quality one that said it met or exceeded Fords specifications used, or was the least expensive aftermarket components used?
On the rough cold idle until full warm up anomaly, scan the computer for pending, or set trouble code clues & post All code Numbers, as they can help focus your trouble shoot.
Did the cold idle problem come about slowly over time, or suddenly after some event?
Is the vehicle up to date on All past & present due scheduled maintenance call outs, like spark plugs & wires, upstream O2 sensor & pcv valve replacement, air & fuel filters, coolant flush & are you using the specified service grade & viscosity engine oil & filter?
Any signs of sludge, gum, or varnish under the engine valve cover on the top end, or rusty color coolant in the radiator?
Some beginning thoughts for consideration. More vehicle history & input on how the rough cold idle began & how long its been going on may help the forum suggest where best to begin looking.
