I'm trying to add factory skid plates and wanted to know if anyone has done this? If so, was it fairly straight forward? Hardware needed? (Trying various discount parts' dealerships to get a list of components but having trouble). So far I've found skid plates for the transfer case and fuel tank, is there anything else?
Transfer case: HC3Z-7E063-A (for this part I'd go to local dealer, its ~$50. Online its cheaper but not when shipping is added)
Fuel Tank: HC3Z-9K036-B (176" WB)
Any chance that if the truck is not ordered with skid plates then they can't be added.
Where you located? I’ll make you a deal on a used fuel tank skid plate if you’re near Northern Cali. Otherwise shipping is costly for me to send it too far.
Either way I will post up a pic of the plate so you know what it looks like.

wow I was quoted $300 for the fuel tank skid plate, and $200 for the Tcase through my dealer.

Unfortunately I'm too far (Northern NM, near Colorado). By chance do you remember what was securing the plate to the truck? Just bolts? Brackets? Feel like I'm going into this blind.

i believe the brackets are permanently attached to the skid plate and The bracket then bolts to the truck frame. I’ll try and get some good pictures of it later for you.
Here's a diagram I got from dealer (was in spam). The fuel tank is specific to 176"WB but Transfer case is for all. It appears that the transfer case is just one bolt. Fuel tank looks daunting, but if it all bolts to the frame maybe ok. It appears in this diagram that the brackets are separate from the plate.
Here are some pictures. I thought the brackets were permanently attached because of the flat head bolts. Three of them are bolted on. The shortest one is riveted on.
Anything stand out as totally "Ford-absurd" to anyone in that fuel tank plate photo?
Note that three of the four "legs" (lack of a better term) are bolted on. But one is spot-welded on ... Why? Three of the four of them could be easily removed for shipping, but the forth prohibits a compact shipping package. WTH Ford???????? Why spot weld on one leg, but bolt on the other three? If all four would be easily removed/installed, they could be broken down for easy flat shipping box.
- either make them all spot welded; fewer parts (no bolts/nuts)
- or make them all bolt-on (ease of shipping)
Don't mix the two methods; that's just dumb. No other way to put it. I love Ford as a general rule, but at times they are just rife with stupidity.
If anyone has a skid plate for 34 gallon tank (SuperCab Long bed is what I have) they'd be willing to give away or sell for a small price, I'd be willing to pay shipping. PM me please.

That is to allow installation. There is no room near the frame rails.
