I have a 1996 F150 2WD with 5.0L V8. The check engine light came on at about 75k miles. I disconnected the battery cable for a few minutes and it went away until around 80k. If I disconnect the battery now, the check engine comes on after 100 miles or so. Any help would be appreciated. Also, the airbag light has come on now and never goes away. Also(I know, it seems like my truck is falling apart), recently the transmission fluid leaked almost completely out when i was out of town for two weeks. I am obxiously very upset since i can't really drive my truck. Any clue as to what is going on here would help. Thank You.
As far as the lights, I don't know if Ford does it or not, but other vehicle manufacturers program the computers to make the check engine light come on after so many miles so you will take the vehicle in for service. This happened to me with a 92 Dodge Dakota. Took it to the dealer, they put it on a machine and told me nothing was wrong with it and done something fancy to turn the light off for another few thousand miles. Ended up just pulling the bulb out of the dash.
As far as the Tranny Fluid, may want to have fluid and filter changed if you haven't done so and have a new gasket put on the pan. Gasket may have failed
