Hello everyone. I’m a member way back from 2002 when I bought my F-250 7.3 diesel. I loved that truck and kick myself daily for selling it. I just bought a 2002 Excursion with the V10 just for something similar but a little different. I’m going to have a lot of questions. Buying a used vehicle this old doesn’t come with manuals (usually) and there’s a few thing I just don’t know about. Forgive me if I post in the wrong area, it’ll take me a bit to get back in touch with the rules, etc.
my first question, the X comes with an entry keypad on the drivers door. Does this mean the key is only a key and not a rod to unlock and lock the doors? It didn’t come with an original key and the seller has no idea how to use the keypad or if it even activated. Any help on this would be appreciated.
Welcome back, Frank. If I understand your question correctly, the key hole on the door is rod activated. The keypad is wired into the electronic lock system (so it doesn't use batteries), but the key portion is all manual. The keyless entry remotes of course are electronic as well. The Excursion came with power locks, remotes, and a door keypad from the factory, that even many Super Duties didn't.
Some people do remove the key lock handles and replace them with non key version, or add Jimmy Jammer plates behind to disable, because these locks are so easy to pop out and break into. So if you don't have a key hole on your driver's door, that could be why.
There are two ways to find out the keypad code- either via the plastic card (if the previous owner had it/left it in the truck), or look on the keyless entry module under the middle of the dash. You have to do some mild disassembly to do that.
