I have a Garmin NUVi with a BC-30 camera used 99% of the time for hooking up my trailer. Problem is during a bright sunny day and when the trailer tongue is in the shade, I can't see it. Has anyone else had this same issue? I really don't want to part with my Garmin as it's a great GPS. I thought about painting the trailer tongue receiver a contrasting or reflective color hoping it would have enough contrast to be more visible. I talked to Garmin and of course they never heard of this problem (right?). What have you guys done to solve this problem? I mounted the camera on the plastic sill between the barn doors and the license plate. It's tucked in there nicely away from everything.
****UPDATE ****
The cheesy little flimsy bracket supplied by Garmin is least to be desired. I remounted the camera, aligned it better, and set up the grid lines. Then I tested everything. At this time of day there is no shade on the trailer tongue or the back of the truck and I can see fine so I know the issue is viewing the black object in the shade when the camera is in the sun. Still need a solution for this. Or, is it just the quality of the Garmin camera?

Reason: UPDATE....
I have a garmin gps with the backup camera. The camera that came with it didn't last long. it got ripped off by something. I ended up installing a camera next to the rear hatch handle. had to shim it a little to point at the hitch. A local Hifi place did it for me and provided the camera. The garmin isn,t the best quality camera imo but worked well enough while it lasted. I had that one mounted next to the hatch handle also. Wondering if the location of your camera is causing your problem. Good luck.
This is where mine is located. It has a pretty good view when the conditions are right. The silly little bracket that Garmin supplies is garbage. I wish they would offer a more robust option. It was on the license plate which was vulnerable to damage by anything that came close to it. At least now it's tucked in under/behind the barn doors lower edge. Looks a lot cleaner too.
