I have a '99, 5.4L, with the tow package. I just bought a 21' travel trailer (took it out over the Labor day weeked, great time....different story though).
Anyway, I have a nice 5 bike carrier (bought before the trailer) that I would still like to use to carry our bikes. I was checking other forums for mounting a receiver on the back of my trailer and read a suggestion of mounting a receiver to the front of the vehicle. Does anyone know if there is an add-on to mount a 2" receiver to the front of an Expy? (I can just picture an Expy with a travel trailer hanging off the back and four bikes hanging off the front!!).
Never seen one, but if all you're going to hang are a couple bikes, you could have a local welder rig something up.
Years ago, a buddy's dad had a full-blown receiver hitch made for the front of his Suburban because he couldn't back a trailer. So he'd tow it from the rear, disconnect and reconnect at the front to then push the trailer where he wanted to go. Pretty funny.....unless you're not trailer backing inclined.
I have seen an attachment that fits onto your existing rear hitch that provides a second 2" receiver. It slides into your existing hitch, and has a 2" receiver on top op if.

Yes they do sell front mount 2" receivers. I bought and installed one on my 1999 XLT 5.4L. No drilling required but you definately need two people (and some still wire) for the install. One needs to hold the hitch while the other fishes the bolt through the frame. I bought mine for about $105 from www.etrailer.com I use it for bicycles and to maneuver my boat trailer into tight quarters for the winter,,,,makes it sooooo easy.
