Good day FTE,
can I convert my existing 3 speed manual transmission steering column to an Automatic transmission column? If not, is there a replacement column available from a supplier or compatible steering column from other models/years? I currently have a 1965 240 with the 3 speed manual transmission. Thanks in advance!
What year is your truck? I believe the outer tube itself is different because there is a spot for the neutral safety switch and it's activating tang on the inner shift tube, which is different.
Instead of the two arms and various shims at the lower end there is this one arm and a heavy duty spring for the automatic.
Only one of the levers NOS that I could see at a quick glance. Used could be fine, too.
C5TZ-7302-B - Transmission Gear Shift Selector Lever Assembly
The spring sits just above this lever inside of the tube and outside of the shaft. Several available NOS.
Then the upper steering column bowl is different. The tube flange between the bowl and the tube is different. You'd probably have to source another automatic column to get some of the parts since they are hens teeth.
A/T vs 3 M/T: Shift tube (7212) is different as is the shift lever (7210) and related parts, shift collar (7228), mast jacket (3514 - steering column shroud), upper flange (3511), selector lever (7302), rod from column to trans (not shown).
A/T's have a kickdown rod (not shown), NSS switch (7A247) & selector lever (7B097).

What kind of transmission are you planning to swap in there? Have you considered leaving the 3-speed column in there and installing a floor shifter for the automatic? Lokar makes some nice kits.
