On my 97 Mazda B4000, my windshield wipers are acting up. In the first position and accessory position on the ignition switch they fuction properly. However when I start the engine, the wipers will cycle once and then quit working. I checked the fuses they are ok. Does this sound like a bad relay switch??
i heard of a wiper delay behind the radio, but i dont know what to do when i find it
On my '98, the wiper delay function is performed by both the Multifuntion Switch and the Generic Electronic Module (located behind the radio) working together. The GEM provides a speed-dependent interval wiper feature. During the INT mode, the delay between wipes will decrease with higher vehicle speed to compensate for increased water on the windshield.
Ken, I started getting into replacing the multi-function switch and have a few questions. I pulled the radio, but there are 3 to 4 modules behind the radio. Which one is the multi-funtion switch? on the left? Also I went to the Local Ford Dealer to inquire about the switch. The parts guy said that Mazda may be using a different multi-function switch than used in the Ranger. Can you verify if they are the same or not? One further question, the cost. Ford parts guy said $181.00. Can you get this cheaper from an aftermarket such as Auto Zone or NAPA?? Thanks for any help in this.
Ken, I think you are right, it must be the GEM module. I went and replaced the turn signal/ wiper stalk (multi-function switch) this morning. It still did the same thing even with the new one. So if I replace the GEM module, that should cure it? Do you have a part number for the GEM module on the Mazda?
I need to upload the data from the old multi-function switch into the new Multi-function switch?? or are you talking about the GEM module?? Please clarify
