Question Violent Shake....Please Help!

I hope someone can help me. I purchased a used '99 F250, crew cab, two wheel drive. 7.3 litre with 6 speed and 125K miles. When I bought the thing it ran and drove great. I have since put about 5K on the truck, including hauling a Bobcat and now the front end shakes so bad my fillings came loose.

It starts at about 45mph with the steering wheel wobbeling back and forth. If I drive it just so, I can accellerate through it and reach cruising speed with a slight vibration. But if I don't catch it, the wobble will go to a violent shake, then I have to slow down, clean my shorts and then accellerate again.

It will also start shaking out of the blue if I hit a qick series of bumps, or turn on way then counter steer to the other.

Please Help!!! Thanks in advance!!

Randy

You may have a bad tire the outside can look fine but inside the cords are shot. Check your ball joints and tie rods to.

Your tires are out of balance. This is common with large tires but not so much with smaller ones. It is a harmonic thing that if you remain in a certain speed range it's just right to build up a wild shake. You need to go have the tires spin balanced. That will cure it. You might have lost a weight to cause this to start. In the short term you can put the rear's on the front until you get them balanced.

Violent Shake....Please Help!

I had the same thing happen to me last week but I had only 24K miles on my tires.
It felt like the front tires were out of balance when in fact it was a rear tire that had separated.
I pulled over and did a visual on the tires and they all looked fine. (If I had rotated the tire a bit more, I would have seen a bulge on top of the tire.)
Anyway, I purchased new Michelins.

Do a visual inspection of the suspension including the bolts that mount it to the truck. I broke a bolt that mounts the suspension to the truck and it did the wobble but only after I hit a bump to get it going.

Biwanylo,
diddo.

We've had to replace balljoints many times before the minibuses even hit 10,000 miles. Our newest one acully had plugs in them that we removed and put zerks in, right now thats the only one we didn't have to replace the balljoints in. And when they go the tires seem to buldge on the outside.

This sounds familiar to a problem I'm having. Would it also stop for a while?
Thanks

The wobble (a violent one) only stopped after I slowed to a crawl. The truck was oscillating on the tie rods which were the only thing holding the front susp. on!

I had the same problem as Grinch. The bolt holding the right swing arm was broken. It would ride fine until a bump, and then would shake so violently that I would have to come to a complete stop.
