My questions about refinishing the arms are:
  • Does the hinge, which I don't think is separable, complicate the process of powder coating?
  • Can the two dissimilar metals in the arm/mount be refinished in one process?
    or
  • Can you tape up the aluminum arm and only powder coat the bracket (after proper prep.)?
An aluminum colored powder coat would be nice and probably durable too.

This is just the mirror head, obviously the brackets for all these mirrors are different. In 1985, a convex glass R/H aero mirror head was introduced.

I have thought the same thing, I do not know much about powder coating at all.
I'm working on a house right next to a friends body shop, so I'll talk to him on Monday and see what he has to say.

Rock auto has them, so do basic parts stores such as Autozone. The Autozone ones aren't Ford but they are exactly identical. Buying from Ford directly means that you'll be ripped off an have your wallet sucked dry.

I've been through this before, they are not exactly identical. The heads are a little different shape, and every aftermarket set I've ever seen always shakes/vibrates. We currently have one on the passenger side of our 93, and every time I go to drive it I have to re adjust the mirror because it moves every time I hit a bump.

How can the OP buy the mirrors from a Ford dealer since they are obsolete? I listed what I could find NOS

And no one on Gods green earth can buy anything directly from Ford, as Ford has franchise agreements with dealers that allows them to sell new vehicles and parts.

I guess I should been more clear. I was looking to buy OEM mirrors from a Ford parts dealer, made by Ford. And I will NOT buy aftermarket because they are all junk.

I knew that, but it seems that someone else did not.

I know that you knew what I wanted, and I assumed everyone else did too. But it looks like not everyone knew what I meant.

There's an old saying: You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.

But some FTE members are stubborn and/or just don't "get it," so I prefer this version from the Clint Eastwood flick Thunderbolt & Lightfoot.

"You can lead a mule to water, but you can't make it drink." -Lightfoot (Jeff Bridges) to Red (George Kennedy).
