I re-ran all diagnostic and came up scratch. Tossing around thoughts over PM with @PrescottIce (thank you!) and I threw in the towel and decided to get the PCM checked out. Diesel Technology of Chattanooga has glowing reviews all over, so I sent in the PCM for diagnostics.
Within a couple hours of receiving my package, Jonathan sent me an email: "I've got some initial testing done on your PCM, and there is definitely something wrong with the MAP sensor circuit, but the normal trouble points all test good. I'll let you know more when I pinpoint the problem.
The next morning, I got the following: "i'm 99% certain that the circuit trace is broken where it comes off the pin hole, pretty much right where the arrow points to. If I reach in there with a probe and push the pin up towards the connector, I lose continuity every time. If I pull it down, I have continuity."
I authorized the repair. Jonathan had the ECU repaired and ready to ship the next business day. When I got it, the note inside said, "I couldn't see the pin move [during the diagnostics] so I thought the trace was broken at the via, but after removing the PCB the pin was definitely loose."
So it's not really something I did, it was a latent problem that surfaced because I removed and reinstalled the PCM to clean the contacts for the DP-Tuner daughterboard.
PCM is installed, truck fired up with expected codes P1000 and P0603. I'll drive it this week to clear those and get it through emissions testing. Glad that's off my mind...
Can't say enough good things about Jonathan's expertise, response, and turnaround.
4/10/19 Update: Ex successfully passed CT emissions, including rolling-bed opacity test. Life is good.
I know the thread is old, however I have been having the same kind of issues. My next step is the pcm. The ses light has been on the last 100,000 miles with the P0237. I replaced the ebv sensor the other day and light stayed off for 6 hours. Longest it’s been off in awhile. That got me motivated to figure this issue out. Thank you for putting your knowledge out there for us to learn.
I purchased my 2001 fall of last year. Persistent P0237 code that only comes on during key on engine off. SES for the code only goes away after being turned on and running a KOEO buzz test or injector contribution test. Then after shut down and turning key back on prior to starting it comes back. Leaning towards PCM any others with similar issue?
