Truck beds

will a box from a 2008 f250 fit on and line up on a 2004 f250? Anyone personally done this and have some tips and tricks. Current on is pretty rusty and can pick on up cheaper than doing the Autobody work.

It will physically fit, but the body lines do not match up.

The body lines didn't change until 2011. Even then, they still line up. The difference is in the wheel arch that most people would not notice.

Oh you're right. I was thinking 2011. But yes, they fit. You should not reuse the bolts, but Ford wants an arm and a leg for them.

08 box on an 04? Sure should fit fine. Will it look right? Short answer No. Long answer. As others said body lines and some other small cosmetic features. However I have seen some older super duties rocking take off beds from later trucks. Most of the time its a white bed on a different color truck as white is a very popular fleet color.

Why would you recommend this? There's absolutely no reason to change the bolts when swapping a bed, it's just a waste of money.

IIRC, there are minor differences in the 1999-2007 and the 2008+ beds.

The 2008+ diesel trucks have a larger fuel door with provisions for the DEF tank fill.

2008+ trucks have different hinges on the tailgate. The tailgate was slightly revised with SUPER DUTY lettering.

These differences are very minor and easily dealt with should a bed swap happen.

The bed bolts are TTY. Not supposed to reuse them. But the OP will probably be cutting them anyway.

you must not live in Michigan.

Bed mounting bolts have to be cut off here.

There are aftermarket bolt kits available for less money than the Ford bolts. They aren’t Torx +, though.

Deal fell through

The deal didn’t happen. Still looking for a realitivly rust free short box. I live in Manitoba Canada so I am sure I will have difficulty removing them. Any tips for removing other than using a cutting wheel?

I put a 2012 bed on my 2000 model and it fit fine, I even reused my old taillights and tailgate, the body lines are slightly different mainly around the fender arch, but I have Raptor liner on the bottom part and over my fenders so you can't really tell.

Depending how far you're willing to travel for it, there are multiple places here in NY. One that I've used often is Dave's Auto in Niagara Falls.

I snapped some off with a Torx+ socket and a long breaker bar on the old Ranger. Broke at least one socket, though.

I used a grinder on the Super Duty. A cutoff wheel finishes the job after you lift the bed.
