Blower Motor Blues

I'm changing the heater core in a 79 F100, 6 cyl, no ac. While having it all apart, I decided to go ahead and change the blower motor since it's such a pain in the ***** to get the heater box out. The old motor rattles and you can tell the bearings are getting pretty bad. So go down to the Oreilly's for a new PM350 motor and it turns out... it's got a damn hole in the case about the size of nickel! I went back and looked on their site, and sure as heck you see it in the photo (just not as obvious). So this don't make no freakin sense! That part of the motor casing is in the engine compartment and it exposes the innards of the motor to all kinds of dirt, moisture, and dirt dobbers.... all guaranteed to ruin the inside of this motor! WTF? Someone had their head up their @ss
when they designed this??

Has anyone else run into this? What did you do?

I'm thinking about wrapping the hell out of it with electric tape so that the hole will be sealed shut. Otherwise, the life expectancy of this Made in China Masterpiece will be quite short.

Thoughts?

Check out this thread
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...otor-hack.html

The poster has a pic of what looks like a really old motor with the same hole. I changed mine a few years ago and don't remember a hole. Is this for a A/C truck or non AC?

ok. so here is a pic of my old motor. non A/C truck. no hole. I got a replacement from rockauto.

Yes, I've seen that other thread. As mentioned previously, this is a non ac truck. The original motor did not have a hole.

Is it a drain hole? Do the AC systems cause moisture to condensate in the DC motor? I've seen that in some other vehicles, with like a rubber boot popped into the hole.

Again... This is a NON AC truck. As shown in this photo of another truck similar to what I'm working on, you can see that the motor body is in the engine compartment (although it does mount from the inside).

I'm pretty sure it's a will-fit deal, there's some makes that have a rubber hose in a hole like that to venturi air through it for cooling, if it's in an enclosed spot. Have one in my farm pickup like that right now, stuck a plastic plug in it with a wrap of electricians tape.

If it was mounted in the cab, I wouldn't have been as concerned about this. But being in the engine compartment as it is, I'm sure it wouldn't be healthy for it to have the motor guts exposed like that. In any case, I just finished wrapping it with tape... it will keep the dirt/moisture out... and hopefully get it all back together soon.
