At just before 100k, I replaced the wiper motor. A year later, on to number 3. It looks like I will be doing it a 4th time. This is ridiculous!
Anyone have a problem with their wiper motors going?
The first one was replaced under my factory extended warranty. The second one under the 2 year unlimited warranty. Looks like this 3rd one will be out of pocket.
Pisses me off!
I know there was a TSB that mentioned the wiper motor gear sets didn't have enough grease which could result in early failure. But honestly wipe motors normally outlast the trucks. Were these all done by a dealership?

Yup.
First one locally. second one out of town, and the third one will also be locally. All major Ford Dealers.
Do you know what the TSB is? Then I can go to the dealer and get them to bring it up for me.
I have never heard or saw anything like that on my 35 years working on fords. Usually one goes electrical, but grinding something is not right, the only problems I have with them is when the guy's dont clear the snow and use the wipers and the linkage breaks or the fireman's hat breaks "thats what I call that plastic clip that holds the wiper transmission together".
Even though you’re hearing grinding (mechanical) noises, I wonder if your wiring is somehow messed up and heating up/burning out the mechanisms.
Or.....maybe your actual wiper arms are slightly out of whack and putting too much stress on the motor causing excessive wear.
Just seems odd to have that many wiper motors burn out.
You would figure a qualified technician would diagnose it. It has been done at 2 different dealers, soon to be a 3rd. You would figure one of them would catch it.
As far as the wiring, I think it is connector that cannot be reversed, so I don't see how.

After the problem's with my first one being replaced, I was mindful of the snow on my windshield. After the 2nd one was replaced, I was diligent in my snow clearing.
