No holes?

Came across this 51-52 upper grille panel with no holes for an emblem or letters..........never seen one before. Is this from a '51 w/ a six? Or some unicorn piece?

Could it be for a military truck, that they might have not wanted a Ford nameplate there?

This is my 52 and 51 Mercury trucks. One has Mercury letters and one has V8 emblem (missing). Doug.

What does the backside look like? Any sign of holes welded or lead filled?

No, Scott had it right in his first post. The 226 engine in 1951 got no badge, thus there are no holes. Stu

First thing I looked for was welded holes, but no. Reason I thought '51 six is my '51 COE has no V8 emblem on the front......
Thanks Stu for the confirmation!

The '51 F6 I just bought doesn't have holes there either. It is an M series six.

Oh yeah, I should have included mention of the 254s. Same applies. Stu

In 1952, Ford unveiled its all new 215 cid 101 hp overhead valve I6 engine, and it was deemed worthy of its own distinctive badge. Stu has some beautiful examples that are all painted in their glorious original colors. To my eye, they look better than the V8 badge.

Yup, one year only. Used on the 215 and the 254. Stu

I never understood the "meaning" of those 6-banger emblems. Why three bars/4 segments? Why not 5 bars/6 segments? Or a big "6"?
