My father has a 2014 F150 XL supercab that is silver in color. An area of paint the size of a golf ball has chipped away from the front end of the truck that started as a small chip from a rock. I am toying with the idea of getting a 2017+ F150 or F250 in the future and and was looking at getting one in the XL line because i will use it as a farm truck 50% of the time and i absolutely hate trying to keep the carpet clean in my 2006 F150 XLT. I want rubber/plastic floors! So here is my question, I understand that the XL line comes in a more limited and less fancy color selection but is the paint a lesser grade of paint on an XL line vs a XLT?
I can’t confirm it, but I very strongly believe the paint is the same no matter which trim you choose (though some colors are limited to certain trim levels).
The paint on the XL is the same as on the other models. Another interesting fact is that many of the high end models come with Hankook tires and my XL came with Michelins. Get the XL-you won't regret it....

I agree. I don't really know but seriously doubt there is a paint quality difference.
It does seem however from my personal observations, that silver on any vehicle, is the worst offender. Unless you really love silver I would try a different color.

The more I see of the XLs and XLTs, the more I appreciate them. Love those black bumpers and the "basic" wheels.
You got a nice one.
The trucks are the same. Same frames, bodies, paint (higher trim levels offer tri-coat paints as an option) and drive trains (with the exception of Lariat and up 4x4s getting a different transfer case). The differences in the upper trims are seats, wheel and electronics. I have an XLT. Had a Lariat before and don't really miss it. I'd have no problems with an XL either. Options cost dearly on these trucks, but they're all pretty much the same when you strip away the fluff.

Thank you. Actually I wasn't that crazy about the plain jane (17") wheels so I bought a set of 18" wheels and tires with 3k miles on them for $500 from a guy who took them off his 2016 XLT who upgraded to a set of 20s. Then I sold the Michelins to a local guy for $500 and then sold the wheels to a guy from Cincinnati for $100. Then I added the Yosemite Sam mud flaps to add a little personality to the truck. I'm very happy with it even though I've only put 1400 miles on it in the 5 months I've owned it....
I don't think you can order it on the current generation, but in the previous one you could get lariat F150 with column shift and 40/20/40 front seat. Actually sat in one once, it was weird and awesome.
