Yes. If it's reasonably dead and the Einstein with the charger hooks it up backwards there won't be any fireworks .. It won't have the CCA that it should have and probably other problems but it will charge.

Yes I did it on my John Deere tractor......battery was completely dead.....knowing it was 6v pos ground, I went brain dead and hooked the charger up backwards. Charged it up and it wouldn't start. I finally realised what I had done, so I hooked up a headlight to it, let it completely discharge, and then charged it correctly. I lucked out, and nothing was harmed. A testament to Pertronix ignition.
