front shock replacement w/load leveling suspension
Has anyone had to replace thier front shocks yet? My 99 seems to have a very soft ride in the front. The truck has 58k miles and I have only had it 4 months. The shock from the dealership are $110 each and wanted to make sure before I buy them. At speed on the interstate recently when crossing a long bridge it felt like the nose was going to hit the ground it got so bad. Thanks for any help.

If you are refering to the air shocks that come with the 4 corner suspension, then definitely have htem replaced, and check all front suspension linkages too. I replace my front air shocks every 30K miles because they start deteriorating about them.
I suggest you have your dealer do it. You can ONLY find those shocks at Ford dealers. There are no substitutes. Since they are tied into the whole air leveling system, it's best I think to have experienced techs work on them. I've heard horror stories from those that thought it a simple job, and screwed up the leveling system.
Hope this helps.

Just replaced the air shocks on my '97 at 127,000 miles. As I feared, the replacements are valved much softer than they were in '97 model year (nice firm ride back then). I'll bet your shocks on the '99 are fine - yes, they are mushy. Better ride, but not better to tow the boat with. Now my '97 rides soft like my buddy's '99. Oh well.
Replacing air shocks is a gravy job, BTW - one of the few jobs I've ever done that was easier than expected! Imagine that. I would recommend getting the Ford shop manual / CD.
