I am looking to replace the stock shocks with the Bilstein shocks. I am going to have the F250 with a 2.5" front/2" rear leveling kit.
Has anyone put a set of Bilstein's on yet with this combination? If so what is the part number for the fronts/rear.
I previously had a leveled GMC with Bilstein's on it. The shocks listed a different vehicle application but they also worked very well on my truck. So I am hoping someone has contacted Bilstein already and found a set of shocks which will worked on these leveled trucks.
If not what other good quality shock have you guys been using?
I've seen sites listing them with leveling kits so I do know they're available. I've seen some shock companies listing same part numbers as 2008-2010 models, so maybe one in the same? I too would like to hear more for people since I'm considering a set too. I think I have to lift/level it though to get the 5100's in chrome (don't think blue/yellow would look the best on my black truck). Also thinking about Edelbrocks.
I purchased Bilsteins for my '08. I just pulled up their listing for an '08 F350 and you can see if you follow the link that they are very clear on application.
Shock Warehouse is a vendor/supporter here on FTE so I think you can get a discount code. I would call them and ask about these:
So I see a set of King Coil Over Shocks for these guys are $2300! What kind of ride could we expect out of those? Are the benefits on that type of set up mainly seen in off road performance?
Thanks for the replies!! I see that Rancho offers a RS9000XL for the 2.5" level kit. I like the idea of adjusting the shocks as needed to keep a softer ride. They are offering a free "MyRide" remote now but I'm a bit confused how they work. Has anyone installed these shocks yet? Do you have an air compressor with air lines going to each shock? I'm just a bit concerned on brush or other things hooking up the lines and tearing them off if that's the case.
I will call Bilstein tomorrow and see what they have to say. I would rather have the 5100's they just look nicer then yellow to me. I'll post the results of our conversation.
I hope it's worth replacing the shocks. I pick up the truck tomorrow so I really don't even know how it's going to ride. I have probably over read all of these posts and now I'm panicked about rear end bounce and some have said how much better the ride is with new shocks. So now I'm just thinking to replace them the new ones, aftermarket must be better. But geez this costing a lot of money so far with all the aftermarket stuff and I'm keeping it simple!!
Here is what I am doing:
I just bought the 2" Auto Spring leveling kit and am going to put the Bilstein 5160 remote reservoir shocks on. Bilstein said that the 5100's would make the truck ride better than stock, but the 5160's would ride noticeably better than the 5100's. The 5160's have a longer range of motion due to the remote reservoir and will work on our trucks with up to a 2 1/4" lift. The hard part is going to be finding a good price on them.
Here are the Bilstein part numbers:
front: BR5H075H0
rear: BR5H076H0
I had the rancho adjustable system on my GMC with RS9000 shocks. IT SUCKS!!!!!!!! It leaked air all of the time even after sealing every connection.
Wow - I think you just sold me on some bilstein 5160's! If it's up to 2.25 I'm assuming it will work on stock height? I'm in tje same boat though, I do all this research but then can't always act on it when I check my act balance ( or lack there of!)

Bilstein said it will work from stock height up to 2.25 of lift. I spent over 30 min on the phone with their tech confirming it all before I dropped the $$$$$$$.
Perfect, thanks for the great info. I've been checking 4wheel parts website - seems like in the past Ive seen shock sales for buy 3 get the 4th free, but the fine print might have been just for the lower end units.

That confirmed my fears about the Rancho's. I called Bilstein and I was told the shocks for the 2005-2010 will fit the 2011's. The Bilstein part numbers listed below are for a 2"-3" front lift and a 2"-4" rear block lift.
Front: F4-Be5-6681
Rear: F4-Be5-6246-H6
I like the idea of the 5160's but with a 2.5" lift does not sound like it will work.
Just make sure it's 50/50 shock, they should be able to confirm that for you.
As for the 5100 series Bilstein's, I had a polished set on my 2000 for about 7 years. They were great until I moved to PA. The salt annihilated them and they looked like hell. Just a warning for those in that type of environment.
Someone mentioned Kings.. Man, those are ridiculous overkill on these trucks. They're nice, but unless you're runnin' the baja, you're wasting your money. My dad used to run a set of King 4.0 bypass shocks on his old desert car (the one in my avatar) and once you get 'em dialed in, they're a great ride, even at 100mph in the desert.
