I recently bought a '53 F100 with the flathead V8. This tube was in the bed. It looks like a drain of some sort. Can anyone help me identify what it is and where it goes? Thanks.
At first it looked to me like a tube for an oil-dipstick, maybe from a transmission, but the diameter of 1 1/4 is to large for that.
So it's likely a exhaust tube from a bike.
It's the crankcase vent tube for a V8. Kind of an unusual one, tho. Usually two pieces. Most turn at the oil pan and go horizontal, then down at a 45. Others are as shown below
That tube shown by Indybeer (and in the diagram) is a "road draft tube" for crankcase ventilation (it essentially dumped oil residue and vented oil "gasses" under the car while you were driving. ie: it's the early PCV system but hippies spontaneoulsy combusted when they saw it, so they had to get rid of it and put proper PCV systems on engines.
But that tube could be one but no idea if it's for your engine or not.
Thank You! Mystery solved! Great picture - where did you find that?
