I'm trying to expand the holes on my cross-members and my tools (or experience) aren't adequate. Before I contact a machine shop, I figured I would ask here.
So I've tried using regular drill bits like those above and the boring type pictured on the drill press.
I've tried it with both the press and a cordless. The press is adjustable, so I can increase or decrease the speed. I've tried the recommended (by the manufacturer) and full-speed with the press and slow to high with the cordless.
I can retry that as I assumed the same thing. The bit in the Dewalt had no problem drilling through my chassis. I'm assuming the nut welded inside the cross-member is grade 8 (or better if there's such as thing...)
I meant to say the type of bit - that bit was never used until now. I got a large set of that type of bit from Costco about a year ago. It came with 8+ of each size until you get to the larger ones
we have a small shop, and a few years ago a guy ask to borrow a hand drill. i was working and noticed he was having problems. i walk up to him and notice the hand drill was in reverse. he was at it for almost 15 minutes. not saying its your problem, it just reminded me of this,
I hope it's not a 48-52...though it could explain why it was a few millimeters off on each side...(my truck is a '54)
I had tried with the drill press and it only goes in one direction. That said, the Dewalt does have a nice switch so you can see what direction it's going (I will double check that I didn't make a mistake though).
I can try with a new bit - I don't think I have the tools to sharpen a bit.
