Ignition replacement question
I am looking at a 2002 F-250 Triton V-10 but when I went to test drive it I noticed it has the metal key without the transponder on it so I am assuming they have bypassed it. Is it possible to replace the ignition without having one of the original keys to reprogram? I am not sure how they have bypassed it to know if the chip is in the truck somewhere or not.

No there is no chip or transponder the ford keys to super duty trucks just have a plastic cover on them unless it’s an excursion or Harley Davidson edition super duty which didn’t even exist in 02. Then the pats system was put in to super duty’s starting in 08 but we’re not standard on the xl trim. That’s a big part of the reason that these are the most stolen trucks in the country, there is nothing to bypass. If you want a key with the black plastic on it all you have to do is order on and have it cut anywhere that can cut keys. Home Depot did my last ones for free. I ordered the blank keys off eBay. Pretty sure these are the ones I bought for my last few trucks.
