i have a 1991 XLT 302. My ECM fried and now I’m in the process of figuring out why. The plug that goes into the ECM has an exposed yellow wire. Not sure how it got exposed. Looks like it was either chewed or was gouged somehow. Does anyone have a diagram as what each wire does? And does the plug come apart so I can remove the wire and either heat shrink the exposed section or cut and replace with a new wire? Again, thanks!
If I was to test that wire should it have a certain amount of power coming from it? I have no idea where to start to see how it could have fried my ECM. Don’t want to plug the new one in before I figure out where the problem happened.
might be worth mentioning that this exposed wire was wet from a week of rain. Would water on the exposed wire cause this???
I assume the yellow wire is Pin 1 according the diagram above. Assuming that is correct it is hot at all times. It's the power to keep the computer's memory active. I suppose it could fry the computer somehow if it was wet, but I would expect the fuse to blow first. Stranger things have happened. Disassemble the EEC connector and repair the bare spot.
I heat shrinked the exposed wire and crimped and heat shrinked the crimp. Started up and didn’t shirt out! I’d say it worked but I’m still nervous! Haha
