I just had a brake controller installed in my 2018 F150 and I don't see any info on the dash regarding the BC- no numbers if you press the + or - buttons. Squeezing the brake ***** on the front don't seem to do anything. I think I have that #24 fuse but still not sure its getting power. How do I know? Uhaul ordered the part and installed if for me
You have to have the trailer all hooked up in order for the controller to work; I assume that you did.
Can test it with an empty trailer by putting it on the highest setting, drive forward a little, and hit the brakes. The trailer tires should skid easily.
The factory one is available for the '18's and its easy to install and activate(or you can have the dealer do it, requires a decent obd2 adapter) and it will integrate with the trucks display.
If U-Haul won't take it back, (they should since you bought it from them and they installed) and got the Prodigy 2, then you got a good controller. I had one installed (also bought from U-Haul) in an Expedition years ago before getting the 150 and it did great.
thanks to all who gave such helpful information ! Turns out Uhaul installed it correctly, and it had power going to it, but after checking at my local ford dealership, they said they had to program it to be able for the truck to recognize it as long as it was a Ford part. Lucky for me it was now its working and sending inputs to the dash when I have my camper hooked up.
Yay!
My reaction too. Really surprised that U-haul would install a factory controller. Glad you got it working. IMO the factory controller is the best option.
the Uhaul owner was so nice working with me- he said he had installed them in earlier model F150's many times. He ordered it online from a Ford dealer- for about $90. And said he would install in for way cheaper than the dealership down the road would. Silly me. Ended up there anyway to get it programmed. Something the Uhaul guy didn't evidently run into in the earlier F150's . oh well, it works now and I am ready to tow my new camper! Guess there were some changes made in the 2018 F150...
Post a picture of your truck hooked up to the camper. One of my daughters wants a little camper trailer like a Casita or a teardrop of some sort.
If I can figure out how to post a picture on this site I will! Tell her to check out their website at www.golittleguy.com She can take a virtual tour there as well. The company, Liberty Outdoors, just came out with a Little Guy Mini- I think that's the name- that is selling like hotcakes too. There's a forum on face book she can join to ask questions as well. I think there's a link from their website to the forum. I was considering the Casita, as well as the Tabs, but when I saw the LGM, it was love at first sight! They are so well made.
