18K or 27K

I am putting together my plan for 5th wheel and gooseneck options for my 2010 f-450.

one question is sizing of the 5th wheel hitch....is 18K adequate for rv/toy hauling and occasional light equipment use???

Or am I going to hit situations more often than not that 18K is not enough and 27K is needed?

What is the price difference between the 18K and 27K 5th wheel hitches? In most cases you should probably be okay with the 18K hitch, but myself I would rather have more hitch than is needed rather than having more trailer than hitch. Also what is the weight of your rv/toy hauler trailer?

so I guess Im going to pass on the 18K hitch.

I bought a new take off gooseneck/5th wheel prep kit that came off a 2017 truck for 100 bucks.
I also bought new in the box from the same seller the 2 ball 33k gooseneck package with the arm type chain locks...got that for 100 as well.

I saw a 18K ford 5th wheel half price and wondered if I should get it, but since my gooseneck ball can handle 33K, woundly make sense to have an 18K 5th wheel , unless of course I could get it at fire sale price.

I got the 27K Reese/Ford 5th wheel from an ad on Craigslist for $350 & only had to drive 2 hours to pick it up. Well worth it to me. SWMBO always says "Bigger is better".
