302w???

Hey everyone
Im looking for headers for my Ranchero with a 302, but all i find is 302W. Now i thought only 351 was a windsor model, but supposively every brand of headers only has it for the 302W. Is this a misprint, or if not, is it the same? And if its not, what else will fit these? I saw one that fits 260-351W, so that might. So if someone can expalin that to me that would help a lot Thanks!!
Danny

302w???

all 289's, 302's are Windsor motors the only reason people say 351WINDSOR is to seperate it from the 351Clevland. with the exception of the clevland and boss 302, all small blocks are in the WINDSOR family, it's because of the Windsor style heads. hope this helps DW

302w????

from what i've read,(and these are not my words) there are only 351 w, no 302 etc. although sometimes the 302's are refered to as windsors. i guess it has to do with the fact that the deck height of the 351w is taller than any of the other small blocks such as 221,255,289,302. does it really matter?

351w's were made in windsor ontario.... making them windsor's 302's were made in cleveland technically making them not windsors, they are part of the same family but are not windsors.

Technical correction...not to be disrespectful.

The 1969 "Boss 302" was actually a Windsor block with the heads designed prototypically of the later Cleveland engine. So in this instance, you have a Windsor block with water-cooled intake AND Cleveland style heads. But yes, the "Boss 302" is often catagorized as a "Cleveland" engine (335 engine series). Also, in 1969 was when the 351-W made its debut.

If I am not mistaken, the 351-W deck height did not change until 1976, so that would make pre-1976 351-W's interchangeable with the other small blocks (all considered Windsors EXCEPT for the 335 Engine series). The 335 series engines ("Boss 302" - 1969, 351-Cleveland - 1970-74, 351-M, and 400) are also catgorized as "small blocks," but the 351-M and 400 (production years 1976-1982) have bell housing bolt patterns that enable them to mount to "big block" bell housings and use big block trannies.

So to make a long story short, I think that, yes, it does really matter to know the what, when, where, and how of particular engines. To illustrate, take a 1984-87 302 and run it side by side with a 1984-87 351-W H.O. (High Output - yet another 351 variant!). The difference in performance from the factory is as different as night and day. So there are noteworthy differences between pre-1976 351 Windsors, post-1976 351 Windsors, and 351 Windsor HO's.

yes and again yes! according to the book i now have in front of me, all 351 w's had the same deck height, which was 9.480" except the 1974 to 80 which was 9.503". anyway i think that they were all great engines, call them what you will.
