Hello, I am new to this site so bare with me. I haven't found much help on the web at large. I have a new to me 2015 Super Duty F350 and I run a Northern lite camper..thus the backup camera goes away with the tailgate in the garage. Is there a simple camera that will 1. plug into the FORD plug and 2. mount into the bumper by the license plate. It seems obvious but I cannot find a "simple solution".
I’ve never noticed anyone discussing it in a thread.
When you take the tailgate off, do you unplug the canera? If so, maybe you can just buy a second camera (as though you were replacing the one in the tailgate) and mount it wherever you want. You can then just plug in either camera into the truckside harness.
I guess my real question was after I unplugged the FORD OEM camera set up and removed with the tailgate...is there a camera out there that will simply plug into the Ford plug? The internet is full of comments that this is not the case but the info is dated. I cannot imagine someone out there has not figured out the plug'n play using the Ford plug. There is a handy hole next to the license plat on the bumper for a camera...but I don't want to rewire the whole enchilada.
What i’m suggesting is just buy another Ford camera and put it where you want in the bumper and then just plug whatever camera you use into the main wiring.
Usually when you replace a Ford camera the desler has to reprogram it do that the vehicle will recognize it. You should therefore check with a dealer first to see if one system will recognize two separate cameras. If it won’t, you may just need to use a completely new setup for a second camera.
Or.....pull the one out of your tailgate and make it so that you can put that one camera wherever you want as you need it.
