7 Wire RV Plug

I am wanting to install a 7 wire plug in my bed for hauling my 5th wheel bit want to leave the one in the bumper in tact for all my other trailers. I am not a fan of it hanging over the tailgate as that rubs the paint.

Have any of you seen or heard of a plug in harness for this to avoid splices? If not have any of you done this and have some ideas for me?

Been there, done that. I too don't like the cord hanging over the tailgate.

I've bought the 7 pin plug, some heavy cord(like they use for trailer cord), mounted the plug up behind the left side tail light (inside bed) and ran cord through hole in corner of bed(pretty sure there is a plug in the upper corner?). Run wire down to existing wiring and patch in(solder).

Clean and simple.

OR, make yourself a patch cable. Put male on one end and keep it down under bumper, lead the other end up into bed and mount recepticle like I mentioned above. Now when you need to use it, just plug lower cord into existing bumper plug. That way there is no cutting/splicing of wiring. Especially if it's original factory wiring.

Just a couple thoughts......

I'm thinking I'll be soldering. I agree that's the cleanest install. I was just hoping for a really clean wore harness adaptor built to do it.

Don't recall the brand, Hoppy?(at Autozone), but they make a harness that plugs into the rear tail light harness that gives you a 7pin( put one on my '89). You just have to solder the brake wire and ground. Only problem is it's pretty short and only meant for bumper mounting.

I tried doing an online search and couldn't find it.

If you have the towing package, there's 2 conectors under the back to plug into no reason to cut or solder ... Get the plugs/harness from the junkyard. I have a few extra.....

2 connectors? NOT on an OBS. I have had MULTIPLE trucks with the tow pkg and not one of them has had more than ONE plug

If you dont want to spice another plug, just run the cord between the bottom of the tailgate and the bed

My 7 flat plug is mounted right in front of the left wheel well. where the side and floor meet. It is spliced in right below it in the frame rail. If done right splicing is no problem. Grandpa did this one 23 years ago and both plugs still work great.
