On our 2017 F350 with the 6.7, if the ignition is on in the accessory mode, the engine hours is counting as observed in the trip 1 or 2 display. Is that supposed to record that in accessory mode, and does that count as idle engine hours even though the engine is off ??
We have about 20% idle engines hours compared to the total engine hours, and I think that is high. We take long trips, with very little idling. I idle on a cold start up for a couple of minutes before taking off, and idle at shutdown just enough for my engine oil temperature to get down to about 198 degrees to let the turbos cool down, and that is it.

i don’t believe it does. Also when you use remote start Your idle time is not counted.
I had 12 hours of idle time on my recently delivered truck and 18 miles. No way did they let the truck idle for 12 hours - I hope.
well I’m wrong then. Not the first time. I do know that remote start doesn’t go against it.
FWIW who knows what the dealership did within those 18 Miles
I was wondering what went into "idle hours" as well.....I was sitting at a red light a couple of weeks ago and the idle counter clicked off another hour. I currently have around 120 "idle" hours out of about 500 total engine hours...there is no way that mine has sat idling for that long.
I have a cousin who took his truck in, this was about 10 years ago now, because he thought his fuel mileage was really low. They said it was because of all the idling he was doing. I don't remember what ever came of it. Just remember thinking at the time that they had no way of knowing how many full throttle starts or how much heavy towing he was doing- or maybe they did.

If you have an older vehicle with a digital tripometer it keeps track of a lot of things and engine hours is one. To access the diag, engine off, press hold trip reset button, turn ignition to run, when it pops up in the trip then release button, press button once to access each monitored system. If you have running it will show the operating ranges. I use to have a cheat sheet of all the codes and ranges on my old truck.
On my '17 450, I am at 50% idle out of about 1100 engine hours. I do a lot of idling for my job, but it was already a high ratio at 100 hrs engine time...seems whenever the truck engine is on and there is no pedal input, it adds to the idling--which, technically, is correct?
