Whilst perusing various forums, Galleries, and Webshot sites, I have often seen modifications that have installed a switch in the interior light cct. Most of the persons doing this have had the same cab as me, A 4 door '96 F series.. So, any of you know how to do this modification - I have been searching around the truck looking for the obvious, but can't find it.
Only advice I can give is get a wiring diagram. I have never messed with the dome light circuit, so I looked around for a diagram to see how Ford seemed to handle the wiring. The latest diagram I have is for a 88 Bronco. In this case, it has a seperate fused circuit from the fuse box that feeds a lightgreen/yellow wire. After leaving the fuse box, this wire hits a splice, and then this dome power spreads out all over the interior of the truck. One goes to the headlamp switch, one to each door, etc. So if you want one "kill" switch for the system, you are going to have to find this wire near the fuse box, and put the switch there before it branches out. I don't know if the wire color above is valid for the later years.
Thank you, I pulled up a wiring diagram, and learned that indeed the wiring for that cct has not changed - still a light green/ yellow wire. I pulled the kick panel, and rooted around under there, and found the loom branch to the door swiches. I also identified the fuse to the cct, and that is as far as I could get. To be able to isolate the lg/y wire at source I need to get to the back of the fuse panel, I could not see an easy or obvious way of achieving this.. Could someone let me know the best and easiest way of getting access to the rear of the fuse panel....
