I have an 84 B-II and have a very unreasonable problem with my wipers. They come on when I turn on the ignition and can only be stopped by pulling the fuse. I have cleaned the switch (no change) replaced the switch (no change) except $130.00 poorer. The wiring is in good shape with no grounds. So now what should I do? And oh yea 99 Explorer Sport fixes are not going to help me out. An 84 Ranger fix would do it but only early Gen 1's had the same switches and wiring. So if anyone out there has some experience with this I could really use some help.

Sounds to me like the park switch in the wiper motor itself is bad, especially if you have already replaced the switch. Other than that the only thing left would be the intermittent wiper governor, if it was equipped.
Well Ive been doing this in a Ford shop for the past 7 years and have only seen it come with the motor from Ford. I would call around your aftermarket parts suppliers and see what they have avaliable.
You mentioned an intermitten wiper governor. My wipers work fine on low/high, but in intermittent, they continually wipe at the normal low speed, no matter how the "dial" is adjusted. I thought that maybe the pot was bad for the variable control... where would I look to find it?
I removed the wiper motor and cleaned and inspected the parking switch operation. The park operation worked properly under bench conditions. (There is an index pin that opens the power circuit when the wipers reach there lowermost position after being shut off)
I couldn't get any satisfaction with the old motor, so I bought a shiny new Ford unit. $ 265.00. 8 days later I installed the pretty new darli'n and to my surprise... NO CHANGE!!!
Maybe someone like HomerWinzlow would know if there is a relay hidden away in the circuit somewhere. It seems logical as the wiper delay must be controlled by a relay of some kind. Is it possible that I have a trashed $5.00 relay that has cost me $400.00 + ?

Been on vacation for a couple weeks from the shop re-roofing my house. Ill try to get to the old service manuals today to find some answers for Oceanwave and Bikerider900 if I am not inundated with backlogged work when I get there..
Man this roofing will tear a man up if he isnt used to it. Kinda glad to get back to the shop for a change... LOL
Like I said, my unit seems to have a bad pot or something. The wipers work fine but when you turn left to the intermittent part, they stay a constant speed.
Bike rider you never stated if your wipers park normally. If they dont park normally that is usually the wiper motor park switch. You also havent eliminated the switch as the source like oceanwave has.
Ok well it sounds like the motor is fine. Is your switch the center off type? I mean it should work low speed one click to the right of center detent, high speed two clicks right of center detent. Intermittent is left of center detent and adjusts to maximum delay all the way to the left?
Thanks again Homer!!
I knew there had to be another piece to the puzzle but couldn't locate it. I'm betting that I have damaged or shorted this unit and it is simply confused. Time for a little re-education I think.
Once again thanks for the help Homer.
