"Dealer stock orders scheduling during the "balance out" period are usually locked in and cannot be spec changed."[/QUOTE]"
Crap. Forgot about balance out. That's why the dealer told me they couldn't make a change less than one week after they submitted the order 0n March 22nd. I find out this week if the factory decided to accept the change.
All of that said, I see the priority code on the ordered 2019 is a 20. I think the p code default is 19 for a customer order and the dealer can move it up to 10. Only the region or national can move it below 10. It appears the dealer intentionally deprioritized this rig. Customer order priority only applies when all else is equal, so anything in the system for this dealer with a higher priority code (10-19) that was ordered before this will take priority including stock. My guess is the dealer is up against allocation and wants everything to stock to carry him through change over. Probably a high volume store.
Not concerned. Deposit was for 19, so if it’s here by the end of this year, I’m good with it. Why would someone order an 18’ at this point anyway? That’s like ordering a one year old truck.
Ok so based on all of this, 2019 retail orders should be accepted beginning around April 20th. Since I don't want it before October should I wait until late June?

No, retail orders for 19s started on 3/6. Scheduling (not building) begins in May 17th and 19s start to be built on June 18th. Figure 2-3 weeks after that to start arriving on lots.
Ok so if they will truely start showing up that fast I probably dont need to order until August. Wow, at this rate I can see 17s 18s and 19s in some dealer lots all at the same time.

Yeah, it almost seems like your being feed false information from someone, hmmmm.

If you want Sep/Oct, I'd wait till 4th of July to see rebates that may come out around them. Then you can lock them in and expect anywhere from 6-10 weeks for delivery. All depends on your dealers allocation. If I recall, there is a 2 week shutdown at the plant in the summer so that can push things out.

Unfortunately for me, the reason I need to order an 18 because I need the truck during June, July, August.

some of us don’t have as many years left and don’t want to wait longer to enjoy the ride. That and what difference will it make on the back end if I plan to have it 12+years.

That is pretty much my feelings. What exactly is the difference between the value of a 2000 and 2001 model truck in 2018? Last time I ordered "my" truck, I ordered it in the first quarter and received it during the second quarter of the year. Did the same this year. It worked out for me 20 years ago, no reason why it will not now......
Getting exactly what you want and not paying for options you don't is a good thing anytime of year.
Why would someone order an 18’ at this point anyway?
Oh I don't know, why would you go to the store to buy groceries today, when you could wait 2 months and buy newer groceries. Oh, maybe you need it now and can't wait for 2 months? Maybe you like the rebates for the 2018 so you want a better deal? There are lots of reasons. Maybe you plan on keeping the truck until it gives up the ghost so you don't care about resale.
Everyone's circumstances are different. That said, after 5 years, it's all about mileage and configuration in the used market. Highly optioned used vehicles will always be hot. And, keep in mind, that one thing that happens every year, price increase. You're going to pay more for the same vehicle, so that extra value that you think you're getting for waiting, yeah, it doesn't work that way. They always get you in the end.
I have not looked at GM or Toyota but having ordered several new Ford and Dodge diesel pickups over the last 18 years IMHO there are WAY too many options (60 or more?) and for 2018 nothing has changed and its even worse with 5 or 6 trim levels! Yes I know it lets everyone can get the truck "exactly" the way they want it but from a statistics standpoint I bet 80% of all non fleet vehicles are not "special" ordered. From my past experience most options are a cash cow and I've gotten pennies on the dollar for what they cost when it comes time for resale with the exception of cab size, 4x4 and engine. We recenly bought a new Honda CR-V for my wife and there are 4 trim levels (really 3 since one simply adds leather) with the total number of options you could count on one hand. That made our price negotiation, vehicle locate and purchase an easy process. Now for the 6.7 2500 4x4 XLT club cab 8' bed with premium pkg and BLIS without snow plow or camper pkg I am looking for... There about 2 on the entire east coast and not even color I want so here I go back to ordering again. BTW the CR-V was an EX which is level 2 out of 4 and it came with BLIS and Adaptive cruise standard but heck don't flame me I know it can't tow a house.
I just searched the basic Kelley Blue Book (kbb.com) private sale values on F250s Lariats to see the difference a model year makes. Used 50,000 miles for all cases.
For this year, I'd be able to sell for this price:
2014: $35,567
2015: $37,136
2016: $40,669
2017: $42,327
What this tells me is how many miles on the odometer is likely much more important than the year of the truck. When you factor in the price increase, anyone who has already ordered a 2018 will be just fine. You won't get the new 2019 features but they're not much to write home about anyway (B&O Audio, FordPass Connect).
What is weird right now is how many 2017s are still on lots with 2019 orders open. Has to be unusual for Ford. They really screwed up on the length of the 2018 model year it seems.
I recently sold my 03 2500 quad cab Cummins and even being the original owner had a very hard time getting offers for the number the price guides list. Plus I was under on milege but once you get past a certain age all bets are off unless its been a garage queen. The other problem is all the aggressive promos that the manufacturers have been running the last few years. If the buyer is financing, for a little higher payment they can get something brand new.
