2004 6.0 with 186k. Just made the switch to premium blue 15w40 when this seemed to happen buy I doubt it's the oil. Brother in law has same truck made same switch and no issues. I'll be cruising along at 55 mph and punch it and truck doesn't do a think for a good 6 to 7 seconds. Then turbo kicks in and half *** goes. Try it again, gets better. After about 5 times it finally decided to act right when i floor it and boom its off to the races like she had always done. Truck is straight piped with egr delete. At idle now it no longer whistles. Sounds mellow like when the AC compressor kicks on for a sec. Check the boots and no leaks ... One is new.. besides after what feels like forever it takes off like normal . I went to pass someone today on a 2 lane highway and I completely passed them and was getting back in front before it kicked in. I know it's not normal. Any suggestions what to look for. I have torque pro if it helps I just don't know what to look at . No codes at this time ..
No longer whistles..........perhaps the vanes are not sweeping.......also makes me think this when you say after a few attempts it acts normal, almost like the VGT solenoid finally overcomes the sticky vanes.
When is the last time the turbo was out for a cleaning?
I've had it for 15k and have not cleaned it. It's hard to watch vgt going down the road.. lol.. or will I be able to tell in the driveway. Did it today at the worst possible time . Boat ramp!!! Get the boat all the way up the hill then wants to go.
No codes set.
Just at a local shop said AIT sensor would do it too.
I've had a boot cracked then popped off 3 times after a new one before I reached for dollar store aqua net. It's a new tube but I did inspect it and it not cracked / blown out.
Only the 03's and 04's with the 03 Engine (engine builds prior to Sept 29, 2003) had the inferred EBP strategy applied in the 06E17 action (2006 PCM flash update).
I know there is some debate on this (regarding an inferred stragegy on ALL 6.0L's), but clearly Ford manuals target the EBP sensor and plugged tube as potential causes of surging, etc. (turbo control related issues) in the late 04 and up model years.
