New to the forum so here goes. Ran into a very strange happening yesterday. Stopped at a store and the alarm sounded when wife exited with engine running, we both had fobs. 2017 F450 PT. I shut the engine off, when she returned I went to start but the dash indicated restart now or will need to use key but it would not start even with the brake depressed. Next we tried the remote start and it started and shut down. Then tried both fobs to lock and unlock doors, nothing worked. Opened the door and the alarm went off. This went on for a few minutes and then the fob would lock and unlock and then it started as normal. Took to dealer and found nothing wrong. Went back to the same place to get an item and again it wouldn't start or lock, did not check the manual lock buttons or key pad. Went inside the store and mentioned the problem to the clerk and the first thing she ask is it a ford. We were told they do not know why but only fords are effected at this site and it is frequent. I remembered a similar happening last summer with a family in a ford. Any one ran into this before, it like the lights and display board are emitting signals that interfere with the fob or computer signals. If I would not of had it happen I would not believe it.
Strange thing happen with the electronics this days.
Yup. The less the better I say.
Back when we first ditched dial-up and got wireless internet, it would kick us offline anytime we used our wireless home phone (5.4Ghz). Our previous 2.8Ghz home phone was fine with the wireless internet...

There is something at or within that store that is putting out a frequency that the Key Fobs don`t like and the system gets confused. It`s not just a Ford problem as i`ve had this happen on several brands of vehicles that i`ve rented.
I think you`ve narrowed down your problem because you went back to the same store and it happened again but it doesn`t happen at other places.
Also, make sure the batteries in the remote are not weak.
Thanks for the reply. I have been following the post on No Key Detected and it seems to boil down to the electronic emissions of the surroundings thus making the placement of the fob or key critical to the electronics working together. Placement close to the sensor, in this case center console close to the dash or in the paring station under the cup holder of the console seems to work. The forum was very helpful as lots of others have had this experience. Interesting that you had it happen in other brands, and most likely others have also. I have parked jeep and gmc in the same spots in front of this store with no problems. So great to grow old with all this new electronics, LOL
