Dipstick read question.......
My 2005 Excursion with the 4R100 transmission........
It's strange to me.......
Why does my dipstick only seem to register fluid on one side......?
It is as if the dipstick is somehow horizontal......can't get a trusted reading.,
I am crazy?

One side has "hatching" cut into it to catch the fluid in the squares. The other side is smooth, so that smooth side does not reliably read fluid level. Only read from the "cut hatching" side.
Also to consider: The dipstick goes in at an angle through the tube, so it picks up fluid from the tube if you just filled/added fluid. This gives you a false reading unless you wait a while before checking the fluid.
