Hey guys. So I gave my big blue beast a bath today and when I went to clean the running boards there is a skim on them like oxidation. Hard to remove but can scratch it off with finger nails. Any advice on best way to clean them? Been a harsh winter here in Canada
They're putting so much crap on the roads now it's not even funny. Besides salt, now some public works departments are putting down a liquid pretreat which has god knows what in it. I'm sure this crap atomizes into a fine mist as it's rolled over in turn putting a fine coating over many parts of a vehicle. My boards on my 2012 were fine when I traded it in after 5 years, but I was very religious about cleaning them up after snow events to literally get the crap off.
I have some liquid but haven't tried it on the running boards. I use the powder. It's more abrasive than the liquid, but not as abrasive as regular powder cleansers like Comet.
I have this problem as well, here in AK. And yes, my chrome tow hooks are starting to get a bit of rust closest to the frame. Are you guys using the same cleaner to get that cleaned up as well? I'll post a couple of pics shortly.
I have both issues also. My tow hooks were rusty at the frame when the truck arrived. I have made no comments to the dealer on this as yet. I may just put electrical tape around the hook further back where the rust starts and then spray paint the hook and frame there with black rust paint. I also have that film developing on the running boards between the anti-slip ribs. I wash it regularly but it does not take the film off.
