Well, I guess it's good to know it's not just my truck with rusty tow hooks. Seeing as this is my first SD, even though it also gets to sleep in a garage at night, I wasn't sure if it was 'normal' or not. I'm not sure I can get electrical tape that far into the joint where the hook comes out. Any other ideas or dealer suggestions on how to keep the hooks from rusting out and also looking unsightly? I thought not having rust was one of the reasons to have the chrome package in the first place? Last time I checked, chrome wasn't supposed to rust?

*edit* Apologies to the OP - didn't intend to hijack your thread. I've also had the oxidation on the running boards and once the Spring thaw is done, I intend to clean it up as suggested by the other guys.

I had black hooks on my F250 and never the first hint of rust. This one with chrome hooks rusted within the first month. A poor chrome job, for sure.

I have the OE chrome running boards and they are a royal pain to clean around all the individual rubber inserts. I'm now looking for a set of aftermarket painted/powder coated set. And yes my 2017 chrome tow hooks are also rusting.

My hooks are rusting slightly also. Seems like they plated them just far enough to where it would not show. They should have plated the whole hook.

Hear I thought I was the only one who doesn't drive there. Supper duty in the winter.

Four salty New England winters, 62,000 Mi., no garage.

**** poor quality on the 17's and up.

I have no other issues with my truck, and I'm on the fence going in to complain about rust on my truck's tow hooks. On the other hand, this truck lists for 65k+, so chrome tow hooks that have not see much use or exposure should not be rusting.

I have both issues on my 17 as well. I wash my truck at least twice a week, all year long. It is also garage kept. The chrome has actually started to bubble on one of my running boards. Very disappointing!

The design of the factory running boards is terrible for holding “stuff” between the treads. i’ve been looking at aftermarket running boards. I’m about to start another thread asking for pics.
